This procedure describes how to clean the MMP8 Moisture in Oil Probe after detaching it from its measurement location. Clean the probe using these instructions before storage, shipping, calibration, or sensor replacement.
Cleaning the probe and its sensor is important to prevent oxidation of the oil on the sensor. Oxidized oil residue on the sensor may lead to extended response times and measurement drift.
- Do not scrape the probe or the probe body.
- Do not immerse the probe body (the part that contains the M12 connector) in liquid.
- Wipe the probe head with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove any oil on the surface.
- Immerse the tip of the probe head in purified gasoline or heptane liquid. Make sure the filter is completely immersed. Move the tip of the probe head in the liquid to clean the filter and the sensor.
- With the filter still attached, blow on the probe head with instrument air.
- Remove the filter and dry the sensor gently with instrument air. Check that the sensor looks clean. Sensor replacement is recommended for sensors that appear dirty after being cleaned in this manner.
- Reattach the filter and tighten it properly (recommended force 5 Nm).
- Wipe the probe body, cable, and probe head with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
