WARNING Make sure that electrical connections adhere to local and state legislation and regulations.
WARNING Make sure that you prepare and connect only de-energized wires.
PR53EX models include an additional grounding terminal. The terminal is not included in the PR53 models.
- Switch off all communications to the process.
-
Loosen the bolts on the refractometer cover using a TX20 Torx key, or 3-mm Allen key
(PR53EX). Be careful not to drop the bolts.
-
Remove the dust plug from the refractometer. If you are using the connection on the
right side, remove the dummy plug using a 19-mm wrench or a flat head screwdriver.
-
Install the cable gland or thread adapter depending on your site requirements.
-
Cable gland option: Disassemble the cable gland into three parts. Connect
the upper part of the cable gland to the refractometer and tighten to 5 Nm using a
22‑mm wrench.
-
Thread adapter option: Tighten the thread adapter to 5 Nm using 24‑mm
wrench.

- If you removed the dummy plug, install it on the connection that is not used. Tighten it with a 19-mm wrench or a flat head screwdriver.
-
Install the cable according to the connection type.
-
Cable gland option: Feed the cable through the cable gland. Ground the cable
gland by removing the 15‑mm sleeve from the cable, brushing the metal braid upwards
and folding it over. Make sure the wires reach the terminal. Tighten the cable gland
to 5 Nm using a 22‑mm wrench. Make sure the wires are not twisting.
-
Thread adapter option: Feed the cable through the conduit pipe and thread
adapter. Make sure the wires reach the terminal. Connect the conduit pipe to the
thread adapter and tighten to 5 Nm using a 24‑mm wrench. Make sure the wires are not
twisting.
CAUTION If the conduit pipe is metal, it grounds the cable at the refractometer side. If the conduit pipe is not metal, use the SHIELD connection at the terminal block (shown in the figure). For the power side grounding, follow local regulations.

Connect the wires inside the refractometer.
CAUTION Do not connect the power cable (VIN+/VIN-) to the analog output terminals. This can damage the refractometer. -

Reinstall the refractometer cover. Tighten screws to 2 Nm using a TX20 Torx key, or
3-mm Allen key (PR53EX). Be careful not to over-tighten. The screws may break.
If you are connecting to Indigo520 transmitter, see Indigo500 User Guide (M212287EN) for wiring options. -
If needed, use the grounding screw on the metallic light cover to ground the
refractometer body.
