Site requirements
Requirement Description
Free space around device Trees, buildings, or other objects near the device disturb free air flow and affect the accuracy of the measurement results. Consider the application-specific requirements.
Distance to compass

Do not install the device near a magnetic compass. The safe distance is 5 m (15 ft 5 in).

Distance to other ultrasonic sensor

Recommended 50 cm (20 in).

Do not install the device within the area of the radar beam.

Installation height Consider the application-specific requirements.
Device alignment

1
Alignment mark towards reference direction (0° datum)

The alignment marks on the device and the mounting adapter, as well as the Vaisala logo, must point at the reference direction based on your application.

Align the mounting adapter so that the alignment mark points at the reference direction. When you install the device to the mounting adapter, the device is automatically aligned correctly after the mounting adapter has been aligned.

You can align the device with the following methods:

  • With the alignment tool and laser pointer (option A)
  • With the alignment tool (option B)
  • By aligning one of the device transducers with a set reference point

The first method provides the most precise alignment.

  1. Apply electric joint compound on the conductive surface of the pole to ensure conductivity between the mounting adapter and the pole.
  2. Press the mounting adapter on the pole.
  3. Mount the alignment tool and optionally the laser pointer on the mounting adapter.

Tighten the screw that keeps the alignment tool in place.

WARNING Read and follow the instructions and warnings of the laser pointer manufacturer.
  4. Turn the mounting adapter so that the alignment mark is pointed at the reference direction.
Option A: precise alignment with the alignment tool and laser pointer

Aim the laser pointer at the selected reference direction and to the specific reference point.

Secure the mounting adapter in place by tightening the 4 screws (tightening torque 5 Nm). Make sure that you do not alter the alignment.

WARNING Be careful not to look directly into the laser beam of the laser pointer.

Remove the laser pointer and the alignment tool.

Option B: coarse alignment with the alignment tool

Look along the alignment tool at the selected reference direction and to the specific reference point.

Secure the mounting adapter in place by tightening the 4 screws (tightening torque 5 Nm). Make sure that you do not alter the alignment.

    Remove the alignment tool.

  5. Apply electric joint compound on the device as shown.

Be careful not to add electric joint compound on the connector.

  6. Lead the device cable through the pole and the mounting adapter if not already done.

Connect the device cable to the device. Check that the cable is properly connected. There is a sound when the cable locks in place.

  7. If the device is installed in a highly corrosive environment, tape the connector.
  8. Mount the device on the mounting adapter, then push it down properly so that it locks in place.

Tighten the screw (tightening torque 5 Nm).
