  • Welding equipment
  • Cutting tools
  • Welding connection
  • Welding opening guide sticker
  • Nuts and spring washers (4 pcs)
  • Isolation valve with handle
  • Retractor
  • 16‑mm wrench
  • Protection caps (4 pcs)
These are general instructions for installing the SDI5 Safe-Drive. Plan the process‑specific installation according to your requirements. Contact Vaisala technical support for further assistance if needed. For PR53SD refractometer installation, see Installing PR53SD refractometer.
  1. Familiarize yourself with the safety instructions of the installation site.
  2. Make sure the process line is depressurized and empty.
  3. Cut the pipeline connection using the guide sticker delivered with your package.
  4. Cut the welding connection into the right size according to your pipe size. See the instructions on the welding connection equipment.
  5. Weld the welding connection into the process pipeline.
If you are following ASME, PED or CRN standards or guidelines, refer to their welding instructions. The welding connection material is EN 1.4462 (AISI 318LN).
  6. Install the hand wheel.
  7. Align the isolation valve and retractor with the welded connection. Make sure the isolation valve is closed as shown in the figure. Two persons are required for the installation. It is recommended that the valve handle is pointing upward.
  8. Cross-tighten the bolts to 27 Nm using a 16-mm wrench. Hold the equipment level while tightening.
CAUTION Be careful not to over-tighten. Using the ball valve will become difficult if the connections are too tight.
  9. Install protection caps over the nuts. This prevents incorrect usage when the refractometer is retracted.
  10. Make sure all connections are properly tightened.
