These are general instructions for mounting the refractometer. Plan the process‑specific installation according to your requirements. Contact Vaisala technical support for further assistance if needed.
WARNING! If you have a refractometer for potentially explosive locations, follow the installation site safety precautions and read the Safety Guide fully before installing. The Safety Guide is delivered with the product or it can be found in docs.vaisala.com.
  1. Familiarize yourself with the safety instructions of the installation site.
  2. Make sure the process line is depressurized and empty.
  3. Weld the ferrule into to the process pipeline.
    For optimal self-cleaning properties, install the refractometer in a 7 ° downward angle.
    Tank installations are specified to be sloped for proper drainability and for the surfaces of the sensor and mounting to be accessible for direct impact from the cleaning flow.

  4. Install the gasket and tighten the clamp to 3 Nm. Make sure the cable glands on the refractometer are in a downward position.
    If your system must comply with the EHEDG sanitary standard, use a gasket that complies with the current version of the EHEDG Position Paper.
    If you have the wash nozzle version of the refractometer, be careful not to damage the wash nozzle when inserting it into the pipe.
  5. If your refractometer has a wash nozzle, weld the wash connection to the supply.
  6. Make sure the refractometer is firmly in place and that there is no excessive vibration. Support the piping if needed.
