You can attach the standard backplate to any enclosure that fulfills the following minimum requirements.Enclosure requirements

Ingress protection
  • North America: UL 50E (NEMA) Type 4X or higher
  • Rest of the world: IP65 or higher
Flammability rating Non-metallic enclosures: According to UL 94: V‑1 or better
UV resistance (non-metallic enclosures) Non-metallic enclosures: According to UL 746C or CSA C22.2 No. 0.17, or both as appropriate (in North America). The same requirements apply in other countries.
Clearance and creepage distances Must be maintained between hazardous live parts and accessible parts after installing the unit with the backplate inside the enclosure. See the following figure.
Grounding Proper grounding required. Protective bonding must be of low impedance.
Ventilation Required when there is a battery inside the enclosure
Heat transfer

Minimum dimensions (H × W × D): 600 × 500 × 200 mm (23.62 × 19.69 × 7.78 in)

After installation, measure the temperature inside the enclosure to make sure that it stays below the maximum operating temperature of the weather station. Also, consider the other possible heat-generating components inside the same enclosure.

The following figure shows the places with AC (mains) wiring in the backplate. The enclosure must be resistant to shocks, vibrations, and similar so as not to damage or compromise the insulation of the wiring or the clearance and creepage between the insulation.AC (mains) wiring in the backplate
For other possible requirements, follow the local legislation for fixed electrical installations.
WARNING When installing the backplate without the enclosure, ground the backplate to the local grounding connector with a low impedance connection. Vaisala recommends 6 mm2 (10 AWG) or heavier copper wire.
