For reliable system operation, the system requires an internal battery. The backup battery is housed inside the weather station enclosure. In case of power failure or outage, the backup battery continues to supply power to the weather station electronics.
Battery management unit BMU801 monitors the backup battery and keeps it charged. When the station runs on battery power, sensor heating is disabled. When battery power runs out, the system powers down.
The weather station can have 1 or 2 internal backup batteries. If the weather station has a fiber termination box, there can be only one backup battery.
