Cleaning the prism

In most applications the prism stays clean due to its self-cleaning effect.

In case of a coating problem, the preferred solution is to try to increase the flow velocity, for example, by installing a pipe portion with smaller diameter. If increasing the velocity does not provide a solution, consider installing a wash nozzle and a wash system. See PR53 Prism Wash System User Guide (M212808EN).

If the prism needs mechanical cleaning:

  • Clean the prism with a soft cloth or with a glass fiber brush, if the dirt is resilient.
  • Use water or if needed, a suitable solvent.
  • Dry the prism gently using a lint-free cloth, such as a microfiber cloth.
Do not rub the prism using sand paper, rubbing compound, wire brush, and similar.
Pay special attention to cleaning the prism when performing RI calibration.

Cleaning the refractometer

Clean the refractometer by using a suitable solvent and a moist cloth.
