Always design the foundation based on the site conditions and requirements, and take into account the height of the construction, the area and weight of the construction and the instruments on it, soil quality, wind load, and other conditions on the site.

Guy wires are required for sites with winds at and exceeding 30 m/s (67 mph).

CAUTION All design values mentioned in this manual are purely indicative. Vaisala does not take responsibility for their applicability to the area in question.
CAUTION Always consult a local civil engineer about the foundation design and to find out about the soil and frost conditions in the area. When the soil is frost-susceptible, always use proper insulation.

Vaisala recommends a slab foundation to be used. If the site is unsuitable for a slab foundation, choose a different site.

The foundation for the instrument is the same regardless of whether you use guy wires or not.

This manual describes a typical example of a foundation.

The foundation instructions in this manual apply to the reference calculations.

The reference calculation in this example is based on the following criteria:

  • Calculation weight of construction: 150 kg (330 lb)
  • Gust wind speed of 50 m/s (112 mph) at the top of the construction
  • 2-m (6 ft 7 in) construction
