Technical note

Taking devices offline for firmware updates will impact the normal operation of your viewLinc Monitoring System. Determine if the devices can be simply taken offline for the duration of the updates, or if you must install replacement devices that are swapped in place of the devices to be updated.

Schedule the updates to be done at a suitable time, with the least possible disruption to the normal use of the system.

  1. Option A: Generate a system report from your viewLinc system to see what AP10 and RFL100 firmware versions are present in your system.
    1. Log in to viewLinc Enterprise Server as an administrator.
    2. Navigate to the Reports tab.
    3. Generate a System report that includes Device information in Excel (.xlsx) format. The default Complete system report is suitable for this purpose.
    4. Wait for the report to be generated and download it to your computer from the Downloads tab.
    5. Open the report in Microsoft Excel and switch to the Devices worksheet.
      • AP10 access points are listed in the Host Details section. Note the firmware version in the Version column, and the IP address in the Host IP Address column.
      • RFL100 data loggers are in the Device Details section,
  2. Option B: Check the firmware versions from the Sites Manager.
    1. Select Sites Manager > Hosts and Devices. The device list opens.
    1. The firmware column is hidden by default. To show it, click any list header and enable Columns > Firmware Version. The firmware version of each RFL100 is now visible.
    2. Select Show hosts. For each AP10, the firmware version is listed in the Version column.
  3. Compare the versions with latest available and compatible versions (also note hardware version compatibility requirements), and make a list of devices to be updated.
AP10 hardware version is not visible in the system report or the Sites Manager. You can verify it from the web interface of the AP10, or from the type label on the device.
  4. Start the firmware updates by updating the AP10 access points first.

For firmware update procedure, see AP10 User Guide (M211860EN).

  5. After updating the access points, continue by updating the RFL100 data loggers.

For firmware update procedure, see RFL100 User Guide (M211861EN).

If you are updating any data loggers from firmware version 1.2.0 or earlier, see Update advisory for RFL100 Wireless Data Logger with firmware version 1.0.0, 1.1.0, or 1.2.0 (M212775EN).
