Plan the installation location carefully before installation. See Choosing the installation location.

Standard installation:

  • Welding equipment
  • Refractometer
  • Ferrule
  • Gasket
  • Clamp

High pressure installation:

  • Welding equipment
  • 9/16 in wrench (for high pressure clamps)
  • Refractometer
  • Ferrule
  • Gasket
  • Clamp
These are general instructions for the refractometer mounting. Plan the process‑specific installation according to your requirements. Contact Vaisala helpdesk for further assistance if needed.

If you are using a flow cell, see Installing refractometer with flow cell.

  1. Familiarize yourself with the installation site safety instructions.
  2. Make sure the process line is depressurized.
  3. Weld the ferrule into the process pipeline.
For the optimal self-cleaning properties, install the refractometer in a 10 Â° downwards angle.
If your system must comply with EHEDG, 3-A or other sanitary standard, see the standard for more detailed welding instructions.
  4. Install the gasket.
If your system must comply with the EHEDG sanitary standard, use a gasket that complies with the current version of the EHEDG Position Paper.
  5. Mount the refractometer. Make sure the cable glands on the refractometer are in a downward position.
    1. Finger tighten to 3 Nm if you are using the standard clamp (with one tightening screw).
    2. Tighten to 28 Nm with a 9/16 inch wrench if you are using the high pressure clamp (with two tightening screws).
  6. Make sure the refractometer is firmly in place and that there is no excessive vibration. Support the piping if needed.
