Before you start, make sure that the ball valve is closed. The valve must be closed whenever a probe is not installed in it.

You can install the probe in the process with the ball valve kit provided that the process pressure is less than 10 bars. This way, you do not need to shut down the process when installing or removing the probe. If the process pressure is higher, shut down the process before installing or removing the probe.

Fitting screw of the probe: attaches the probe to the top of the ball valve.
2

3
Ball valve handle in closed position. Turn to open position when pushing the probe through the valve.
4
Manual press tool: use to press the probe down when installing the probe to a pressurized process.
5
Probe insertion depth, measured from the bottom of the welding joint to the top of the probe filter. Push the probe deep enough to insert the probe sensors inside the process. Minimum insertion depth: 2.54 cm (1 in).
CAUTION Make sure that you do not cause damage to the equipment or harm yourself by pushing the probe too far into the process. The maximum insertion depth varies depending on your probe model. Always confirm the maximum insertion depth of the probe before insertion.

After attaching the ball valve kit to process, install the probe through the ball valve as follows:

  1. Make sure that the ball valve is closed by turning the ball valve handle.
  2. Shut down the process if the process pressure is more than 10 bars. If the pressure is lower, there is no need to shut down the process.
  3. Attach the probe to the ball valve:
    1. Seal the threads on the fitting body of the probe.
    2. Attach the fitting body to the ball valve and tighten it.
    3. Slide the clasp nut of the probe toward the filter, as far as it goes.
    4. Insert the probe to the fitting body, and manually tighten the clasp nut to the fitting body.

Fitting body (24 mm hex head): ISO1/2 solid structure

Sealing material. Use one of the following options:
    • LOCTITE® No 542 + activ. No 7649 (T=−55 … +150 °C (-67 … +302 °F))
    • MEGA-PIPE EXTRA No 7188 (T=−55 … +170 °C (-67 … +338 °F))
    • PTFE tape (T=−60 … +210 °C (-76 … +410 °F))
  4. Open the ball valve.
  5. Push the probe through the ball valve assembly into the process (2.54 cm (1 in) at the minimum). Use the manual press tool delivered with the probe if the process is pressurized.
CAUTION Make sure that you do not cause damage to the equipment or harm yourself by pushing the probe too far into the process. The maximum insertion depth varies depending on your probe model. Always confirm the maximum insertion depth of the probe before insertion.
CAUTION If the process is pressurized, use the manual pressing tool. If you push the probe hard without the tool, you may damage the cable.
  6. Mark the fitting screw and the clasp nut.
    1

Draw a line on the clasp nut hex and the fitting body hex to mark the 50-60° (1/6) turn tightening rotation

  7. Tighten the clasp nut with a fork wrench a further 50 … 60° (approximately 1/6 turn). If you have a suitable torque wrench, tighten the nut to max 45 ± 5 Nm (33 ± 4 ft-lbs).
Take care not to tighten the clasp nut more than 60° to avoid difficulties when opening it.
