WMT700 measures wind speed and direction. The following models are available:
- WMT703: measures wind speed up to 75 m/s (168 mph)
- WMT702: measures wind speed up to 65 m/s (145 mph)
- WMT701: measures wind speed up to 45 m/s (89 mph)
The weather station standard configuration contains WMT703. Other models are available on order.
WMT700 is also available as a low-power option, which is especially suitable for solar-powered weather stations.
WMT700 observations are based on Vaisala WINDCAP wind measurement technology that ensures accurate results in all wind directions. The wind sensor has an array of 3 equally spaced ultrasonic transducers on a horizontal plane. The sensor determines wind speed and direction by measuring the time it takes the ultrasound to travel from each transducer to the other 2. This transit time depends on wind speed along the ultrasonic path. The effects of temperature, humidity, and pressure are fully compensated.
WMT700 has no moving parts, which makes it very low maintenance and provide reliable operation in all conditions. The sensor performance does not degrade with wear, nor is it affected by natural contaminants, such as salt, dust, or sand.
