Technical description

QST102-3 is an advanced GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) DCP (Data Collection Platform) transmitter. It is compliant with the U.S. National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) V2.0 standards for 300 and 1200 bps operation and certified by NESDIS (National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service) for operation anywhere in the entire GOES frequency band (any of the 566 channels, 177 of which are potentially at 1200 bps).

The transmitter is located inside the enclosure. The necessary cables, antenna, coaxial surge protector for RF signal, and all mounting hardware is included with delivery.

QST102 has a low current consumption both in idle mode and during transmission, and can perform a complete diagnostic and functionality check of its internal circuitry for on-site troubleshooting. QST102 is connected to the weather station over an RS‑232 digital connection.

QST102 supports timed reporting. Timed transmissions are sent at preset, user‑configurable intervals.

The QST102 command protocol allows you to:

  • Control the transmitter's center frequency for each message transmission.
  • Set the transmission time for individual messages.
  • Query the embedded GPS receiver for position location information and precise UTC time.
  • Queue up multiple messages for future transmissions.
  • Query the transmitter for configuration parameters, time of day, and a listing of all messages remaining in the transmission queue.
