Before you can give any commands to the device, you must open a maintenance connection locally at the site. The maintenance connection is an Ethernet connection.

Opening a maintenance connection through an Ethernet connection does not interrupt measurement data transfer.
  • The local Ethernet maintenance connection does not require an open command.
  • If you have 2 serial lines, you can configure one port for data and the other for maintenance (CLI). In that case, there is no need for the open command.

  • If you have only 1 serial line, use the open command to change from the DATA mode to the CLI mode. This interrupts measurement data transfer.

  1. Connect the Ethernet maintenance cable to FD70.
    • If you have the FD70 interface unit, connect the cable to the maintenance port.

CAUTION Remove the Ethernet maintenance cable after setup. It is not intended for permanent installation.
    • If you have the measurement unit only, connect the cable to the open-ended cable.

      17 0.14 White-gray COM2: RS-232 RX / RS-485A
  2. Open the command prompt and type the following command:
    • Through the COM port:
      open <device type ID> <device ID>

      For example:

      open FD 1

If you are opening the connection for the first time, there is no device ID.

If there is only one device on the bus, no IDs are needed.

      open

The port changes to the CLI mode.

    • Through the maintenance port as an admin user:

ssh admin@<fixed IP address of FD70>

      Type the password.

If there is no traffic, the port returns from the CLI mode to the DATA mode after a defined time. The default timeout period is 10 minutes.
