Before starting the installation, plan carefully how many support arms you need and where to install them. The number and positioning of support arms depends on the sensors that you are going to install.

To ensure correct observations, install the support arms at the following heights:

  • Wind sensors and weather transmitters: typically from 6 to 10 m (20 to 33 ft) from road level. The wind sensor can also be installed on top of the mast.
  • Remote surface sensors, visibility sensors, and fixed cameras: typically from 6 to 8 m (20 to 26 ft) from road level.
  • Temperature and humidity sensors, precipitation sensors, air quality sensors, and antennas: typically from 2 to 4 m (7 to 13 ft) from road level.

For sensor-specific guidelines on positioning and aiming the sensor, see the sensor installation instructions.

To prevent corrosion, oxidation, and seizing, use a non‑conductive, non‑water‑soluble, non‑silicone‑based grease, such as ceramic or Teflon paste, between different kinds of metal.
