Cable slot:

  • Depth: 80 … 90 mm (3.15 … 3.45 in)
  • Width with cable only: 12 mm (0.47 in)
  • Width with cable duct: 20 … 30 mm (0.79 … 1.18 in)
2

DRS511 slot:

  • Depth: 80 … 90 mm (3.15 … 3.45 in)
  • Width: 45 … 50 mm (1.77 … 1.96 in) for other filling material, 65 mm (2.56 in) for Fabick
  • Length: 140 mm (5.51 in)
CAUTION Keep the cut within the given dimensions. The wider the slot, the more filling material is needed and the higher the risk of cracking. A wide slot may also affect the thermal characteristics of the road or runway surface and cause poor thermal contact to the road or the runway.
  1. Mark the intended line of the cut in the road or runway keeping it as straight as possible.
  2. Use a diamond saw to cut a slot for the cable from the sensor slot to the edge of the road or runway.
  3. Use an electrical breaker to cut a slot for the sensor at the end of the cable slot.
  4. Make sure that the sensor fits in the slot with 5 mm (0.20 in) excess around.
  5. Cut a hole and install DTS12G, if needed.
  6. Remove the debris material from the cut.

Use an air blower or compressed air and an industrial suction fan, or a pressure washer, to remove the small particles. Any residue reduces the bonding strength of the filling material to the walls of the slot. If there is water in the slot, dry it out with a blowtorch.

CAUTION At any phase of the installation, do not direct the blowtorch onto the sensor surface. The optical fiber ends may suffer damage.
