To make a solid ground connection of the Type V cable shield with the sensor cable (DTS12G, FP2000, or DTS210), use the shield bond connector provided in the splice kit.
  1. Cut the Type V cable to the desired length.

Leave up to 3 m (10 ft) of the cable coiled inside the splice can or junction box.

  2. Make a 13‑cm (5‑inch) lengthwise cut on the cable jacket and shield to expose the wires.
  3. Remove the core wrap.
  4. Clean the gel from the wires. Keep the wire pairs together.
  5. Retwist the wire pairs to maintain their pair identification.
  6. Strip approximately 12 mm (0.5 in) from the end of each wire.
  7. Use the provided ferrules to crimp the wire ends.
  8. Flatten the exposed cable jacket and shield.
  9. Cut the flattened part to a 5‑cm (2‑in) tab.
  10. Punch or drill a 0.64‑cm (0.25‑in) diameter hole at the center of the tab, 1.3 cm (0.5 in) from the end.
  11. Use a utility knife or wire brush to scrape away the non-conductive blue coating on the metal shielding.
  12. Wrap the sensor shield or drain wire around the stud of the threaded shield bond connector.
  13. Ground the sensor shield or drain wire to the cable shield with the shield bond connector.
