WARNING Make sure that you prepare or connect only de-energized wires.

Prepare the cables one at a time.

  1. Take the sensor card from the set of quick reference cards, and check the port where to connect the cable.

The contents of the quick reference cards are updated without prior notice. If you are not using the cards delivered with the station, contact Vaisala helpdesk to verify that you have the latest version.
  2. Take a cut cable into one hand and bend it the following distance from the cable end:
    • Cables to be connected to PMU701: approximately 15 cm (6 in)
    • Cables to be connected to DRI701: approximately 20 cm (8 in)
    • Cable for WMT700 with transducer and arms heating: approximately 40 cm (16 in)
  3. Cut the cable jacket carefully at the top point.

To reach the cut around the cable, release, rotate, and bend the cable a few times.

  4. Take a firm hold of the cable jacket and slide the cut part along the braided cable shield to remove it.
If removing the cable jacket proves to be difficult, cut it into shorter bits.
  5. Shorten the exposed braided cable shield.
The DRS511 cable does not have a braided shield. Wrap electrical tape over the cut.
    1. To detach the shield from the wiring, push the exposed cable shield towards the remaining cable jacket.
    2. Cut the shield carefully leaving approximately 2.5 cm (1 in) of the shield visible.
    3. Pull off the cut part.
  6. Fold the shield back over the cable jacket, and wrap metal foil tape with conductive adhesive around it.
