WARNING Consult local
electricity professionals for the local and state legislation and regulations about
grounding.
WARNING Ground the product
and verify outdoor installation grounding periodically. Failure to provide proper
grounding can result in injury or death from electrical shock and can severely
damage the equipment.
WARNING A long cable between units
(sensors, transmitters, power supplies, and displays) can cause a lethal lightning-induced
current surge. Always ground the enclosure to a suitable grounded location with a short,
low-resistance cable.
WARNING Lightning protection
is required to prevent injury and damage to equipment due to direct lightning
strikes and lightning-induced current surges.
Make sure that the mast is protected from lightning strikes. See Grounding and Lightning Protection in
Vaisala Outdoor Installations Technical Reference
(M211786EN).
Inside the weather station
enclosure, PMU701 is grounded to the enclosure, and sensors are grounded to the PMU701
grounding rail for sensor cables or the enclosure grounding rail for sensor cables.
You need a separate grounding
cable to ground the weather station enclosure.
Connect the grounding cable to the grounding point underneath the weather station
enclosure.

System grounding point
2
Enclosure grounding cable
If the weather station enclosure does not have a system grounding point underneath the
enclosure, connect the grounding cable to the backplate grounding point. Lead the
grounding wire through a conduit hole at the bottom of the enclosure.

Backplate grounding point
3
Cable lug with hole Ø 6.2 mm (0.24 in)
Connect the other end of the cable to a grounded location, such as grounding connector.
