Network Common Data Form (netCDF) is a set of software libraries and self-describing, machine-independent data formats that support the creation, access, and sharing of array-oriented scientific data.

The netCDF service in BL-View follows level 1 (L1), level 2 (L2), and level 3 (L3) data. Measurement and calculation events that occur every 16, 30, or 36 second trigger the service to read the L1, L2, and L3 fields, and write the data to the respective netCDF file.

The service creates the following files every 24 hours for each connected device:

  • 1 netCDF file for L1 data
  • 1 netCDF file for L2 data
  • 1 netCDF file for L3 data with default profile settings
  • Optionally, if configured: netCDF file for L3 data with customized profile settings (1 file for each custom setting)

The extension of netCDF files is .nc. The default storage location of netCDF files is C:\BLViewData. Each device has a separate folder for the files.

Vaisala recommends backing up netCDF files regularly.

An example of a level 3 (L3) netCDF file is in BL-View NetCDF Example File Technical Reference.
