When you start BL-View the first time or when you have new ceilometers, add the ceilometer information to BL-View.

This information is used as parameters in the output files.

BL-View shows how many devices are connected and how many devices are included in the license, for example 2/5 devices added.

  1. Select Start > ( > All Programs > ) > Vaisala > BL-View > BL-View.
  2. In BL-View, select System > Settings > Devices and Add.

    If you cannot select Add, it is possible you have in use all the devices that are allowed by your license. For license updates and new licenses, contact Vaisala.

  3. In Device, set the following:
    Device Name

    Type a descriptive name for the ceilometer, for example CL31 Helsinki.

    Latitude

    Type the latitude coordinate of the ceilometer. Give the coordinates according to the standard WGS84: -90.0000 ... 90.0000 degrees south, north.

    Longitude

    Type the longitude coordinate of the ceilometer. Give the coordinates according to the standard WGS84: -180.0000 ... 180.0000 degrees west, east.

    Altitude

    Type the altitude of the ceilometer location. The resolution is in full meters and feet. For values below sea level, use for example -5.

    You can also ignore this setting and leave the value to the default 0.

    UTC offset

    Select the time zone of the ceilometer location.

    WMO station number (optional)

    Type the station number that consists of the WMO block number (2 digits) and the station number (3 digits).

  4. In Data, set the following:
    File suffix (optional)

    Define text that is added to the end of netCDF filenames.

    File path
    To define where to store the netCDF files, select Browse. The default location is C:\BLViewData. A folder is created in this directory for the specified device name.
  5. Configure the Connection and Messages settings.
  6. Select Save and Close.
  7. When you have completed adding the ceilometers and configured the connection settings and message settings, restart the computer.
The ceilometer information is shown in BL-View and BL-View starts collecting data to HIS files and netCDF files.
