The tilting direction of the mast is important:

  • When installed in the Northern Hemisphere, the mast tilts to the West.
  • When installed in the Southern Hemisphere, the mast tilts to the East.
Plan the placing of the mast and guy wires, as well as the orientation carefully. All of these affect the placing of the equipment on the mast and the lowering of the mast for maintenance.

There should be a clear area up to 10 m (33 ft) on the side of the mast where it is lowered. The area should be free of obstacles that prevent the mast from being erected and lowered.

In Vaisala documentation, the term guy wire is used to refer to both frangible guyings made of glass fiber reinforced plastics (GRP) and guyings made of stainless steel.
