Technical note

Vaisala takes pride in continuously developing the viewLinc Continuous Monitoring System to ensure that it meets your needs now and in the future. One aspect of this focus is to evaluate the evolving software security landscape and make sure that viewLinc complies with industry best-practice to provide you with the most robust and trustworthy GxP monitoring system available. Occasionally, this results in the need to update the security of various system components.

viewLinc 5.2 security enhancement

In viewLinc 5.2, all communications use Transport Layer Security 1.3. TLS 1.3 is the current industry standard to prevent eavesdropping and tampering through the use of cryptography. Older versions of the TLS protocol have been deprecated due to known vulnerabilities and security concerns.

Effect on the AP10 Wireless Access Point

The AP10 supports TLS 1.3 in firmware versions 4.5 and newer. For an AP10 to participate in a viewLinc 5.2 system, it must be running at least this firmware version. Communication attempts from devices running older firmware will be deemed insecure and will be refused. This will prevent the acquisition of new measurements from RFL100 data loggers connected to that AP10. Without new measurements, alarming and reporting functions will also be affected.

It is therefore imperative that all AP10s are running firmware 4.5 or newer before upgrading viewLinc to version 5.2.
